A Termite turn-off
Durable and light weight, inert foam is used in the fabrication of all SIP's. The two most common types of foam used in the SIP industry are expanded and extruded polystyrene. Traditionally, the foam is encased in oriented strand board (OSB); translation: wood.

At Energy Wise Home Builders our superior panels are make with poly-urethane foam and are not encumbered with an OSB or any other wooden outer skin. This combination has a higher insulation R-value, a better fire rating and all but eliminates the chances of infestation by termites or other wood consuming insects.

A Fire fighter
Structural Insulated Panels have no air pockets within their solid foam cores. Because fire requires oxygen, flames therefore cannot race SIP wall cavities. SIP's have passed every standard fire test required of wood-based construction. They greatly out-perform the traditional timber framing.

A Hurricane fortress
Homes built with reinforced SIP/Steel construction techniques have withstood the earthquakes of Great Hanshin (Kobe, Japan) and Northridge, CA as well as Hurricane Andrew and recently in hurricanes from North Carolina to Florida's West Coast assault in 2004 and 2005.  Similar to a steel I-beam, their composite assembly yields stiffness, strength and predictable performance.  You have the architecturally distributed composite (eggshell) effect of the reinforced SIP's combined with structurally superior steel framing.
