Framing
Our structures feature all steel framing
and supports (55% Aluminum-Zinc alloy coated sheet steel (better known as
GALVALUME®). Interior load-bearing shear walls consist of 20-ga. 2"x4" steel
studs at 16" o.c. cross braced with 2" 20-ga hurricane straps. The ceiling
joists and rafters are 20-ga. 2"x6" steel studs at 16" o.c. Our corners are
cross braced with 3"x3"x¼" square steel tubing which are engineered to withstand
300 MPH winds.
Steel framed homes are designed using a structural system that provides benefits that conventional framing techniques can't match.
Besides the obvious advantages of steel framing, strength
and durability there is also the advantage that steel framing is termite
resistant. The avoidance of chemical termiticides reduces the exposure to
insecticides in the home environment. Another advantage to steel framing
involves the fact that chemically sensitive people often react negatively to the
naturally occurring terpenes given off by conventional softwood framing lumber.
A super insulated exterior double wall system made
of prefabricated SIP's
yields an R-value of 41. The roof system is also super insulated (R-45) SIP's.
Houses can be framed with rafters rather than trusses so that the house
can have cathedral ceilings in all of the rooms.
